You have failed me for the first and last time, google.

I am totally going to overanalyze that fanart and say that the pose looks way more like a cross between Beatrice’s and Battler’s and immediately conclude that LOOK AT THAT SMARMINESS AND THEIR BOLD LOOKS AND THAT GODDAMN HAIR-COLOUR THEY ARE HIS SECRET PARENTS

leave me alone I rarely get to fangirl over my favourite two fandoms at once

oh look there’s even the leg-crossing

(also I know the art is sourced in the other one but just in case here it is)

I think it was headlessknight’s excellent post that allowed me to understand my overall problem with this arc, as it stands in the anime.  What’s the problem, you ask?  This arc is ultimately absolutely pointless, except as a bare vehicle to allow the viewer to finally learn Atem’s name.

When someone watches the Memory World Arc, what the viewer expects is insight into what actually happened.  It’s all right if things don’t match up exactly—since it’s a game based on the events—but we want to feel as though the character relationships, personalities, and events are based upon reality and reflect, at least partially, what Atem did and went through when he was alive.
